Wood Fuel
Pellet Manufacturing: Technology Development for Varied
Raw Material Sources
Wood fuel pellets are
a high energy density, stable commodity product
well-suited to bulk transport and long-term storage. The
pellet manufacturing process uses proven technology
components from existing industries and has good
compatibility with existing forestry and wood resource
supply chains. This session examines current technology
developments to utilize the varied raw material sources
for this growing new industry.
Creating
Pellets or Co-Generation from Mill Residue
Determining the
most cost-effective method for using mill residue has
rapidly become a new focus in the wood industry. Two
possible quick payback options are producing wood
pellets or cogeneration. This session offers a
discussion on choosing between adding a pellet line or
cogeneration at your mill.
Session participants will learn about experiences and
challenges in starting up and maintaining a wood pellet
operation, including site location, raw material supply,
material handling, drying operations, dust handling,
material preparation, quality, pellet equipment,
coolers, bagging operations, plant safety and fire
protection.
